Pure Water Engineering Team
Ryan Black
Ryan Black is the founder of Pure Water Engineering, a Professional Engineer, and a Registered Professional Biologist with over 12 years of experience in environmental consulting, research, and project delivery.
He brings together engineering and biological expertise to address complex water-quality challenges. His work at Pure Water Engineering focuses on lake restoration, including oxygenation systems to improve aquatic habitat, reduce internal nutrient loading, and mitigate methane emissions.
Ryan founded Pure Water Engineering to bring practical solutions to lake restoration. He works with communities and lake managers to translate research and water quality data into field applications, with a focus on measurable improvements in water quality and long-term ecosystem health.
Shane Roberts
Shane Roberts is a Principal at Pure Water Engineering, where he focuses on developing practical water treatment and environmental remediation solutions. With a background in environmental sciences and natural resource management, Shane takes a field-focused approach to water treatment, with an emphasis on solutions that are effective, efficient, and realistic to implement.
Shane has managed projects involving contaminated groundwater, surface water, stormwater, and wastewater, including the design and deployment of temporary and permanent treatment systems. His experience includes filtration, activated carbon, dissolved oxygen and oxygenation, and treatment systems for controlled discharge.
Shane enjoys finding straightforward, field-proven solutions to challenging water-quality problems, particularly where a system needs to be adapted quickly to fit the site rather than forcing a project into a conventional approach.
He also brings extensive experience with B.C.’s contaminated-sites regulatory framework, allowing PWE to integrate treatment design with assessment, permitting, monitoring, and regulatory requirements. His combination of consulting and hands-on water-treatment experience helps PWE take projects from identifying the problem through to treatment, discharge, and confirming that the system is working as intended.
Rachel Publicover
Rachel is an Environmental Scientist with a B.Sc. in Earth and Environmental Sciences and a minor in Biology from the University of British Columbia. In 2025, she became an Articling Agrologist with the BC Institute of Agrologists, supporting environmentally regulated projects across British Columbia.
Her environmental consulting experience includes environmental monitoring, site assessments, GIS mapping, and contaminant monitoring across soil, groundwater, surface water, and vapour. At Pure Water Engineering, Rachel specializes in freshwater restoration and lake health field technology, with a particular focus on methane emissions monitoring for lake oxygenation projects.
Now in her second season leading methane emissions monitoring, Rachel is passionate about environmental restoration and developing practical approaches to protecting and improving aquatic ecosystems
Shyla Travis
Shyla is one of PWE’s Environmental Scientists. She has a B.Sc., in Environmental Science from Royal Roads University and an Environmental Engineering Technology Diploma from Saskatchewan Polytechnic.
Her experience spans many aspects of environmental consulting, with a particular focus on natural sciences and environmental monitoring. Her field experience includes assessments of riparian areas, wetlands, wildlife habitat, and environmentally sensitive areas. Shyla also prepares environmental assessments, stormwater management plans, and mitigation recommendations to support responsible development and regulatory compliance.
Shyla has also contributed to the Swan Lake oxygenation project, assisting with water quality monitoring, field instrumentation, and methane sampling. She especially enjoys hands-on fieldwork and projects focused on freshwater ecosystems, habitat protection, and practical environmental solutions.
Outside of work, Shyla can usually be found on the hiking trails, tending to her balcony garden, or fostering a small army of kittens.
Lily Delamare
Lily is a Junior Environmental Scientist with a background in microbiology and environmental engineering, holding a B.Sc. from the University of Aberdeen (UK) and an M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan.
Her professional experience includes environmental research, field monitoring, computerized data analysis, and technical consulting. She wrote an academic research thesis during her Master's on biologically assisted remediation systems. At Pure Water Engineering, Lily focuses on lake restoration projects, supporting water quality monitoring, data analysis, research into innovative approaches to lake remediation, and outreach to the public.
She is passionate about understanding the biological processes that influence the ecosystems surrounding us and developing practical, nature-based solutions that support their long-term nature health and system resilience.
Outside of Pure Water Engineering, Lily has many nature-related hobbies and is the organizer of Nature Finds A Way, a small environmental-focused community group.
